1st Grade

First grade is a crucial period for kids’ learning as they become more independent and mature learners. Our students progress from practicing basic skills to mastering them and moving on to further developing more complex skills. While class routines and rhythms are consistent, no two days are alike. The pace of the day moves quickly, with many venue changes and activities augmented with technology. Students focus on reading, writing, and math in the morning when they are fresh and energized.

The Book: Too Many Pears

"Too Many Pears" is a children's picture book written and illustrated by Jackie French and Bruce Whatley. The story is about a young kangaroo named Pamela who loves pears. She eats too many pears from her father's orchard, causing her to become stuck in a tree!

Her family and friends try to figure out how to get her down, but nothing seems to work. In the end, they come up with a creative solution involving a tractor, a rope, and a slide.

The story is a fun and lighthearted way to teach children about the consequences of overindulgence and the importance of teamwork and problem-solving. And who can resist a cute kangaroo-like Pamela? 🐨💕

Reading: 1 COR 15:12-20

Brothers and sisters:
If Christ is preached as raised from the dead,
how can some among you say there is no resurrection of the dead?
If there is no resurrection of the dead,
then neither has Christ been raised.
And if Christ has not been raised, then empty too is our preaching;
empty, too, your faith.
Then we are also false witnesses to God,
because we testified against God that he raised Christ,
whom he did not raise if the dead are not raised.
For if the dead are not raised, neither has Christ been raised,
and if Christ has not been raised, your faith is vain;
you are still in your sins.
Then those who have fallen asleep in Christ have perished.
If for this life only we have hoped in Christ,
we are the most pitiable people of all.
But now Christ has been raised from the dead,
the first fruits of those who have fallen asleep.
